The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Gombe North senatorial district, Mohammed Usman Ribadu, has stepped down for the state governor Ibrahim Dankwambo.

Dankwambo contested the PDP presidential primaries but lost to former vice president Atiku Abubakar.

With Ribadu relinquishing his ticket to him, he will now be the candidate of the party for the senatorial seat in 2019 general elections.

Ribadu, currently Gombe’s commissioner for special duties, said on Thursday that Dankwambo was more qualified to represent Gombe North at the Senate.

But the governor said he will make consultations before accepting Ribadu’s ‘gift’.

” I want to make consultation because I spend eight years as governor of the state. I want to rest to enjoy the remaining years I have in life,” he said.

Dankwambo also described the victory of Atiku Abubakar at the PDP, presidential Primaries election as a victory for the North-East region.

The Governor said he would support Atiku so as to guarantee victory for the zone in 2019 and urged all his supporters to do so.

He said that the victory of Atiku Abubakar was seen as “ well deserved and a humbling honour to the entire North East zone that has never had the privilege to lead Nigeria in a democratic setting since the end of the First Republic.”
